Every day from March 1st until November 30th
Hiking on Kablar Mountain
The best way to experience Serbia is by foot, and this is exactly what this tour will offer you. We are heading to Ovčar-Kablar gorge along the Morava River, a unique monastery area where you have 10 Serbian monasteries in a small place between two mighty mountains. One of the two monasteries that we are going to visit is the Blagoveštenje (Commendation) monastery. This monastery, like most others from that area was built in the 15th and 16th centuries and this monastery always stood out for its beauty. The frescoes of the monastery are well preserved even though the monastery survived many turbulent times and was plundered many times. We will learn more about the interesting history of that area but also we will hear many legends and stories connected to the monastery.
After this we are heading for the Kablar hike, it will take us around 2 hours to get to the top and the trail will lead us through beautiful nature where the only “noise” you hear is bird’s song. The hike is not demanding, medium-hard, but it will be worth it when we get to the top and you see amazing meanders of the Morava River. The view from the top is breathtaking and from there you can see most of central Serbia.
After chilling on the top we will head down on a different path towards Nikolje monastery dedicated to St. Nicolas and in it there are relics of St. Nicolas, part of his earthly remains. There we will learn more about monastic life and how nuns and monks spend their devoted lives to God.
In the end like the cherry on top, we will end our day and tour with a spa treatment in Ovčar Banja (spa). Mineral, homeothermic water at 38 ˚C is best for the exchange of mineral matters between water and the human body. In the spa, there is also a national cuisine restaurant where you can taste authentic Serbian food from that area and replenish the calories that you burned on hiking.
This is a perfect way to spend a day and be one with nature, threat yourself because you deserve it.
Word of advice: Please bring appropriate shoes for hiking, extra T-shirts, a lot of water, sunscreen & some hat. As well, since we are visiting churches make sure you have something to cover your shoulders and knees.
